Lines & Curves
This performance pulsates with a hybrid vocabulary that includes the fusion of Butoh (the dance of darkness, Japan) and KRUMP (Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise dance, USA) with influences from aerial training and exotic dance; the hybrid vocabulary is underpinned by techniques of method acting. Lines and Curves explores the dilemma of negotiating the social definitions of femininity.
Within the confines of your bedroom you’re allowed to be and do anything you want. You bring the gamut of life’s joys and pleasures, trials and tribulations into your personal space and deal with them, digest them, the way you know how. You will tear yourself apart, you will love yourself, discover yourself, pleasure yourself and exhaust yourself.
Within her breath, the shadows and heavy beats, one woman’s struggle to answer society’s demands on femininity, is articulated through her flesh.
Lines & Curves has been performed at:
Shopfront Contemporary Arts Centre, Sydney; Under The Radar Festival (Metro Arts), Brisbane; The Red Box - Legs On The Wall, Sydney.
